BIOGRAPHY
Gijs van Winkelhof (Rotterdam, 3 april 1985) is a Dutch pianist, composer, arranger and singer. Van Winkelhof composes music for films, commercials, documentaries, theatre and various artists.
Gijs van Winkelhof graduated in 2007 cum laude from the Utrecht School of the Arts with a major in Composition for the Media, a study focused on writing music for film and theater. During his study he wrote the music for the short film 'Ik Ook' by Danny Maas, featuring Tim Murck and Loes Haverkort. In september and october of 2007 the movie was shown at the Dutch Film Festival in Utrecht.
In 2008, Van Winkelhof wrote the music of the song ‘Jij maakt het verschil' (‘You make the difference” that was recorded by the Dutch singer/comedian and television host Paul de Leeuw. On June 8, 2009 Gijs performed in Royal Theatre Carré in Amsterdam at the Major Bosshardt Gala. He performed his composition ‘Jij maakt het verschil’ together with an orchestra. In 2009 the song was covered by singer Lucas Kramer.
As a pianist he accompanied various (musical) artists such as Cystine Carreon, Marleen van der Loo, Jeroen Phaff, Bill van Dijk, Laura Vlasblom and René van Kooten. Gijs performed as a pianist and singer in concerts like: ‘Hoop doet een mens leven (KWF)’ Schouwburg Amstelveen, CliniClowns & Foundation Pantera Concert (Theater de Veste, Delft), ‘Brick by Brick Concert’ (Royal Theatre Carré, Amsterdam), ‘De Kristallen Fiets’ (Sports Gala Cyclist of the Year 2010 in Belgium in Brussels with singer Ibernice Macbean).
Gijs van Winkelhof is also a well known pianist on YouTube. His own arrangements and improvisations made him one of the most famous pianists on YouTube with over one million hits. Through this medium he gained fame in Japan. In February 2010 and June 2011 he performed at the Suntory Hall and the Yamaha Hall in Tokyo with Japanese soprano Yoko Maria Tsukuda. They also recorded an album which will be released by King Records.
